Soft Power, Mary Timony’s Other Band
Just before supergroup Wild Flag formed, Mary Timony was briefly in Soft Power; and in a desperate attempt to find an mp3 of their 2 songs, I came across this 2-hour radio session where the Helium frontwoman plays awesome art rock and talks about her career. The interviewer was an idiot, but I did learn a few key things:
1. She was an original member of Nation of Ulysses!
2. “Junebug” director Phil Morrison cast her in the William Shattner Priceline ads along with Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein!
3. She was in another fake band, Coochie Pop, in the feature “All Over Me.”
4. She teaches music to kids for a living!
5. Yes is one of her favorite bands (and she loves Rush)!
